Car Rental FAQs

These car rental FAQs answer the questions we hear most often at DriveMore, from payments and deposits to airport pickup, tolls and cancellations.

Payments and Deposits

Can I pay for my rental in cash?

No. DriveMore does not accept cash at any branch.

Do you accept debit cards?

Yes, we accept debit cards, although some restrictions apply. The conditions are set out in our Rental Terms.

Which credit cards do you accept?

We accept all major credit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express. We do not accept electronic cards, checks, cash, prepaid cards or gift cards as payment.

Can I pay in advance?

Yes. When you book on drivemore.com, choose Pay Now to pay for your rental at the time of booking. Some third-party booking sites also let you prepay. However you book, you must present your credit card when you pick up the car.

Can I use someone else’s credit card to rent a car?

No. The main renter must meet every rental requirement at pickup, and the name, address, driver’s license and major credit card must all match the name on the rental agreement.

Is there a deposit?

Yes. A standard deposit of $250 is held on a major credit card. If you plan to pay the deposit with a debit card, see the Deposits section of our Rental Terms.

When will I get my deposit back?

We release your deposit once the rental agreement ends. It usually takes 3 to 5 business days for your bank to show the funds back in your account.

Documents, Age and Drivers

What documents do I need to bring?

Your valid driver’s license is the main form of identification you need to rent with DriveMore. International customers and anyone with a license issued outside the US must also show a second form of ID, such as a valid passport, a government-issued ID card or an international driver’s license. You may be asked for other documents, such as proof of insurance, so check our Rental Terms before you travel.

What is the minimum age to rent a car?

Every driver must be at least 21 years old. Main renters and additional drivers under the age of 25 are charged a surcharge.

Can I add additional drivers?

Yes. Additional drivers must be with you when you pick up the car so they can be added to the rental agreement as authorized drivers. Each one must meet our general rental requirements and be at least 21 years old.

What is a local renter?

A local renter is someone whose driver’s license was issued in the same state as the pickup location and who cannot show that they flew into a nearby airport and have a return flight booked.

Do I get unlimited mileage?

Yes, our rentals come with unlimited mileage. Restrictions may apply to local renters, and these are explained in our Rental Terms.

Bookings, Changes and Cancellations

How do I receive my booking confirmation?

We email your confirmation shortly after you book, to the address you gave with your reservation. If it hasn’t arrived within 48 hours, contact us at us.reservations@drivemore.com.

How can I view or change my reservation?

Go to Manage My Booking on drivemore.com and log in with your reservation reference number and last name. From there you can view, change or cancel your reservation.

Can I reserve a specific make or model?

We can’t guarantee a specific make or model. The vehicles shown for each car class on our website and on partner booking sites are examples of what may be available when you pick up.

What we do guarantee is the rate you booked. If the car class you reserved isn’t available, we can upgrade you to the next class.

How do I cancel my booking?

If you booked directly on drivemore.com, cancel through Manage My Booking. You can cancel up to 30 minutes before your scheduled pickup time, and there is no cancellation fee on Pay Later reservations. We do ask that you let us know as soon as your plans change.

If you don’t cancel before your pickup time, or you don’t arrive to pick up the car, we will charge up to three days’ rental as a no-show fee.

If you booked through a third-party website or another provider, cancel through that same provider. Some providers charge a fee if you cancel outside a set time frame, and canceling directly with DriveMore may not release you from your obligations to them. To avoid charges, check the provider’s terms and cancel with them.

What is a no-show?

A no-show is when you don’t change or cancel your reservation before the rental is due to start, don’t pick up the car at the agreed date and time, can’t provide the documents needed at pickup, or can’t provide a credit card in the main driver’s name with enough available funds. In any of these cases, you will not be entitled to a refund.

How do I extend my rental?

You can request an extension through Manage My Booking on our website. The rate for extra days depends on fleet availability and the time of year. Extensions can’t be made online if the rental is overdue or has an outstanding balance.

If you have third-party insurance, or the website won’t accept your extension for another reason, contact the branch you rented from or call Customer Service at (888) 901-5121. If the extension can’t be arranged, return the vehicle to the branch right away to avoid late return fees and other charges.

Pickup, Returns and Travel

How do I pick up my car at the airport?

Our branches run a complimentary shuttle from the airport to our rental facility. Your rental confirmation includes the pickup procedure, and each page in our locations section explains where to meet the shuttle. For any questions, call us at (888) 901-5121.

What if I’m running late?

If you might miss the start of your rental, call the branch as soon as you can. If you can’t get through, call our support team at (888) 901-5121. We can only hold a car for a limited time, especially during busy periods.

If you’ll be late returning the car, call the branch as soon as you can with a realistic return time. There is a 59-minute grace period before a late fee is charged, unless you have been in contact with the branch.

Can I take the car out of state?

Vehicles rented in Florida must stay within the state of Florida. See the Geographic Limitation policy in our Rental Terms for full details.

Do I need a toll service?

You are responsible for paying all tolls during your rental. For convenience, we offer an optional electronic toll service that covers all toll charges and toll-related fees for the whole rental, so you can drive straight through staffed and unstaffed toll booths.

The toll service must be accepted at pickup and applies to the full length of the rental. It covers tolls in Florida only, and the daily rate varies by location.

If you have a portable SunPass transponder, you can use it in our vehicles at your own risk. SunPass does not recognize some devices, and in those cases you may be responsible for the charges. SunPass peel-and-stick transponders will not work in our vehicles. We recommend our toll service wherever it is available, and full details are in our Rental Terms.
