Pet Friendly Car Rental with DriveMore
At DriveMore, cats and small dogs are welcome in our rental cars, so you can bring them along instead of arranging pet care while you are away. Our pet friendly car rental policy is simple: keep your pet in a carrier at all times, and return the car free of pet hair and odors.
There is no extra charge for bringing an approved pet. If the car needs cleaning for pet hair or odor when you return it, a $250 cleaning fee may be charged at the branch’s discretion.
Our Pet Policy
Our policy sets out which animals can travel in our vehicles and what we ask of you during the rental:
- Cats and small dogs: permitted when kept in a proper carrier at all times
- Service animals: always permitted, as defined by law, and they do not count toward pet restrictions
- Other pets: not permitted, including reptiles, birds, rodents and larger dogs
Keeping your pet in its carrier whenever it is inside the vehicle protects both your pet and the car.
Choosing a Vehicle for Your Pet
Pick a vehicle that fits your pet’s carrier, not just the first car available. Our fleet includes:
- SUVs: the most cargo space for carriers and luggage
- Sedans: easy access and room for a properly sized carrier
- Compact cars: enough space for a small carrier on shorter trips
Vehicle classes vary by branch across our locations in Florida, Texas, Nevada and Arizona. If you are traveling with more than one carrier or extra luggage, choose a larger class, and talk to our team about vehicle size before you book if you are unsure. When you set off:
- Secure the carrier so it cannot slide around while you drive
- Use fold-down rear seats, where the model has them, for extra carrier space
- Keep the interior comfortable with good ventilation and a sunshade, especially in warmer states such as Florida, Texas and Arizona
Preparing for Your Trip
Choosing the Right Carrier
- Choose a secure, properly sized carrier that lets your pet stand, turn around and lie down
- Make sure the carrier has no openings your pet could escape through
- For smaller animals, an airline-approved carrier works well
- Line the carrier with absorbent pads in case of accidents
- Consider a carrier with a waterproof base for extra protection
Avoiding Pet Hair, Odors and Cleaning Fees
- Place the carrier on a towel or blanket
- Check regularly that your pet is still in its carrier
- Pack waste bags, odor-neutralizing spray and travel-size cleaning wipes
- Keep a window slightly open for ventilation when it is safe to do so
- Clean up spills from water or food bowls straight away
Returning the Car Clean
Before you return the car:
- Check for any pet hair that has escaped the carrier, especially on floor mats, in seat crevices and in the trunk
- Remove the carrier and any protective covers, and check the area underneath
- Wipe down surfaces with pet-safe cleaning wipes if there is any lingering smell
- Air the car out with the doors open if you can
- Spot-clean any stains or residue
Returning the car clean is the simplest way to avoid the cleaning fee.
